Time to Stop the SOA Hype?

Granted I am basing this generalization on a single data point, something that an IT manager I happened to be sitting next to on the plane told me, but I think the initial wave of SOA evangelism is done and we can (as an industry I mean) stop hyping it now. I think people know what it is now, and are ready to decide whether or not it’s something they want to do.

I couldn't agree more. The term SOA is analagous to a design pattern. It encompasses a collection of previously well known good architetural approaches. It's just an easy way to communicate them. Of course, saying "SOA" is not quite as precise as saying "Observer pattern" but it does quite well enough given its ubiquity.
